IELTS and PTE are the two most common English proficiency tests for study abroad. Here's how they compare.
Format
IELTS is available in paper or computer format with a face-to-face speaking test. PTE is fully computer-based, including the speaking section graded by AI.
Results
IELTS results take 3–13 days. PTE results are typically available within 2–5 days.
Scoring
IELTS uses a band scale from 1–9. PTE uses a 10–90 scale, with most universities requiring PTE 50–65 equivalent to IELTS 6.0–6.5.
Which to choose?
